Workshop Progress
Here are some pictures of the evolution of my workshop over the years.
A workshop is never "complete"-as new skills (and new tools) arrive "workshop-change-around's" are constantly happening. Here are some pictures and stories about mine.

This photo was taken in August 2001. Highlights include my
first proper bench (made from pine), pegboard tool racks and cupboards with
an integral chop saw unit. Power tools include my (then) brand new Record
table saw, Cheapo drillpress and home made router table. (I have a history
of home made, ever improving router tables!) One additional strip light and a painted concrete floor complete my "half" of the garage. (If only the Wife knew what was to follow........) |

This picture was taken in June 2003. Many improvements have been made- A new hardwood workbench with traditional end vice, a new tool rack system, high level shelves for the never ending tool boxes and power tools. A band saw was a major upgrade for the shop-very handy! Also a thickness planer and a lathe have appeared. Dust extraction has taken a step upward with a dedicated shop vac instead of household ones-they fill up way too quick. Not too long after this photo I took over the other half of the double garage-Hooray! |

This was taken in July 2004-the other half of the garage is
now Philly territory. A woodrack has appeared on the far wall, high enough that long boards don't smack you in the head as you enter. More lighting has been installed, a necessity! The Jet planer is fantastic-money well spent! A new table saw is on the horizon! |

My new saw ( an Xcaliber 10 inch Unisaw clone) has arrived.
I built take off tables to the side and rear which takes up a lot of floor
space, but they are necessary for safe and easy use. Insulation has been fitted to the garage doors and a de-humidifier and electric heater installed. It's pretty cosy in there now! |

Another move around-the bench has moved to the North wall, swapping with the table saw. The table saw has a mobile base which makes moving it around a LOT easier. I can also push the saw flat up against the wall if not needed, gaining a huge area of free space. Take a look at the shop layout diagram for the latest layout. |
