Scrapers

These tools are handy in situations where a planes may tear out the grain and replace sandpaper for most tasks in my shop.

Stanley #80

This tool holds a scraper blade like a plane, and allows you to take shavings whilst still maintaining a flat surface. It is an inexpensive tool that works just fine!

I have various cabinet scrapers-there are different shaped ones for curved surfaces. I turn a burr on them using the Two Cherries burnisher.

Remember, scrapers should cut a shaving, not dust. If yours is only making dust it's time to sharpen it. There is a link on how to do this in the Online Wisdom page.

Veritas Scraper Plane

This is a big plane! It is a little tricky getting it set up, but when you've got it right it is cracking.

Cheers Rob!
