| Insert extra long lengths of brass rod into the holes (leave it long for the moment so it is easy to remove). Test the opening action and tweak the fit with a block plane. |

When you are happy with the fit of the lid glue up the box. |
| Plenty of clamps ensure tight fitting joints! When the glue has dried thoroughly remove the clamps and scrape off any excess glue. |

Sand and shape the sides with a spokeshave and scraper to a gentle curve. A bevel is cut along the top of the sides. A quick finish sanding and the box is ready to be finished. I used blonde shellac, applying about eight coats with a rag. |
| Drill four holes on the sides to take the mother of pearl dot inlays. Stick these in place with superglue. |

| The final job is to epoxy the brass hinge rods into place. Polish the ends before fitting them, then assemble. The box is now complete! | |
