No.1-Mitred Box in Maple and Purpleheart

Following the Xmas holiday I fancied making a simple project or two to get back into the swing of things. Small boxes are the perfect thing as they don't take too long to make and use up those pretty off-cuts of timber that you've been hoarding. Lets get stuck in!

Most of the joinery is cut on the table saw using a crosscut sledge running in the mitre slots. This allows you to make accurately cuts safely.
The edges of the sides are mitres and rebates cut top and bottom to take the purpleheart caps.
The caps are also cut on the table saw. Field the tongues...
And then cut the rest using the tenoning jig to safely hold the piece.......
Leaving you with this. The caps are floating to prevent expansion from spliting the sides of the box.
Dry fit....
And when happy get the clamps out!
Cut the lid off...
Plane it smooth with a low angle plane..
and fit the cedar linings.
The lid is a push fit. And that's one in the bag!

A wipe with some blond shellac completes the box.
