Build a Dovetailed Step Stool

Lets make a project using the Leigh Jig. A two step stool is handy for around the house and I just happen to have some pine boards sitting around!

Dimension the boards to size using the cutting list at the bottom of this page. Clearly mark each board and then lay out for through dovetails. Cut the joints using the techniques we practised earlier.
Don't forget to check the manual if you are unsure of anything.
That's the joints cut-just glue the sides together to make single boards .
Clean up the edges with a hand plane and then glue the sides together....
Give all the parts a final sanding before assembly-it is easier when the parts are flat!
Make the cut-outs on the bottom of the sides on the bandsaw and then sand smooth (an oscillating spindle makes for a quick job!!)
Time to glue up! Get the glue on and assemble as quickly as possible as the glue soaks away into the end grain quickly. Use clamps to bring the joints together tight and set aside to cure.
Clean up any dried glue squeeze out and give the piece a final sanding. Looks good! A couple of coats of oil and we're finished.
