Plumbing In Dust Extraction

After years of moving the dust extractor to whichever machine I am about to use I decided it was time to permanently plumb in a system. I used a kit of 63mm clear pipework which runs around the 'shop at ceiling level and drops down to various places. It was simple to install (an afternoon to do the whole lot), cheap(ish) at about £100 and has made life a lot easier. I also now use dust extraction every time where I maybe didn't bother before as I am lazy ;)

I used a Record HPLV dust extractor as the source (sadly my larger two bag extractor doesn't work as efficiently with the small diameter pipework. But I am  glad to say the smaller extractor works great (especially after cleaning the filter out!).

I have connected the Planer, Bandsaw, LittleRat router jig and have two additional drops either side of the bench which, with a 3m length of flexipipe, lets me connect up any smaller power tools or benchtop tools. I also use these points to vacuum the floor - Result!

The extractor is fitted with a remote control which allows me to turn it on from anywhere in the room. Blast gates at each junction keep the pressure high. In use the system works really well and so far I have had no blockages. Obviously this system isn't suitable for machines like the thicknesser but for smaller tools it is perfect.
