Cherry Drinks Cabinet
"Legs and Rails"
| Make a template for the curved lower rails. Smooth it out with a compass plane. |
![]() |
| Lay out both rails.... |
![]() |
| and cut out on the band saw. |
![]() |
| Smooth the edges with the compass plane and the faces with a smoother. |
![]() |
| Set the rails aside until the legs have been shaped. |
![]() |
| Using a template layout the curve on all the legs. They "lean" outwards in both directions so make sure you mark out correctly. |
![]() |
| Cut one side and then tape the waste back together so you can saw out the next face..... |
![]() |
| Giving you this. Smooth out with shaves and the compass plane. |
![]() |
| Three more to go....... |
![]() |
| What do you think? |
![]() |
| The back of the cabinet is made in the same manner as the sides-panels raised on the router table, routed grooves in the legs to receive the panels and stub tenons on the rails. |
![]() |
| Lets make the lower rails-mark the exact width direct from the legs. Cut out the tenons on the table saw. |
![]() |
| We'll cut the curve on these once the rails are fitted. |
![]() |
| Yet again, mark the exact width of the rails directly from the side rails. |
![]() |
| As I have already cut the curves there are no flat reference surfaces to use to mark out and cut the joints. A little lateral thinking is necessary! |
![]() |
| After marking out the tenons I cut them by hand. Cheeks first... |
![]() |
| Followed by shoulders. |
![]() |
| A little clean-up and test fitting later..... |
![]() |
| the rails are fitted. Just need to make the cut-outs for the wine bottles. |
![]() |
| Bottom panel made up and fitted. |
![]() |
| Cut-outs marked up for wine bottle holders. |
![]() |
| Lower rails beveled on top edges to match curved rails. |
