After building the Maloof chair I wanted to build something a little "flatter". This cabinet should be just the ticket. It will be built out of American Cherry with Lacewood panels.

| Here's a mock-up picture from my CAD program. There are a few more details to finalise but I am happy with the general proportions. The lower rails will have cut-outs to hold wine bottles. |

| Here's the timber-some 1 and 2 inch American Cherry I've been hoarding and some air dried Lacewood (or London Plane). |

| First step is to work out a cutting list and make some full size drawings to work out the construction details. Then it's time to break down the timber into individual components. |
![]() |
| Rough cut the parts... |
![]() |
| and plane a flat face and edge.. |
![]() |
| and plane the opposite sides. |
![]() |
| The main timber is American Cherry, a real pleasure to work. It planes up a treat! Some of the timber has a nice curl to it, unfortunately not enough to go around. |

| I decided to cut a slice off one of the rails to glue as a veneer on the opposite rail. First mark a line... |
![]() |
| Then cut off freehand on the bandsaw.... |
![]() |
| Hand plane off the saw marks... |
![]() |
| and you're ready to glue it on. As you can see, some of the timber is quite plain. |

| You can never have enough clamps. Clean it up when dry, and Voila! |

| Edge joint the planks for the top. I used a hand plane after roughing out on the power planer. |
![]() |
| Glue up the top and set aside to dry. |
![]() |
| Cut the legs to final length, using the flip stop on the mitre gauge. |
![]() |
| Mark out the mortises......... |
![]() |
| And chop out on the mortise machine. All mortises are 1/2 inch. |
