Applying the finish

Give all components a sanding to 320 grit, being extra careful not to sand through the veneer.
Then apply a coat of sanding sealer.
When dry sand smooth ready for spraying.
Make sure you cover up your workshop before spraying-it gets everywhere!
A respirator with the correct filter is very important!!

I applied six coats of lacquer with my B+Q HVLP spraygun. It was a very straightforward process.

Set aside to dry-let's make the handle.
I played around with different shapes and decided to go for a butterfly shape.
I roughed out the shape on the bandsaw and then set to work with rasps, files and sandpaper.
Done! Now for some final assembly.
I have rubbed out the lacquer with 600 grit wet and dry paper. Just the handle to attach.
Looking good!

It turned out pretty well. I have put a gallery of completed pictures here.
