Chisels

I have two different sets of chisels- a set by Lie-Nielsen and a set of Japanese chisels. They both have their own advantages and uses. I highly recommend both types.

Lie-Nielsen Chisels

These wonderful chisels, modeled on Stanley now defunct socket 750's, are a joy to use. Made from cryogenically treated A2 steel they hold a sharp edge longer and are superbly balanced in the hand. The hornbeam handles take a beating with barely a whimper and to top it all off, they look great!

Japanese Chisels

I have been building up a set of chisels from Japan. They differ in their construction to western chisels, having a very hard layer of steel forge welded to a softer layer of iron on the back. This layer absorbs some of the stresses on the more brittle edge when in use. They take an extremely sharp edge and when used with a hammer cut straight and true.

The longer handled one at the front is a paring chisel, to be used by hand only for final paring cuts.
