With my tool chest completed there is one final part of my tool storage system left to complete - the mobile base unit. This will be the bottom part of the chest and will hold drawers to store my hand planes. There are also two drawers especially for moulding planes. The unit will feature lockable casters so it can be wheeled around if needed. With the combined weight of the three chests AND my modest tool collection it will be pretty darn heavy!

| The base is made from 18mm MDF with the show
sides veneered in black walnut to match the other tool chests. I cut the pieces on the table saw and then fitted the dado head and cut 9mm deep rebates for the back, shelf and bottom. |

| The veneers were shot with a hand plane. I used some offcuts of mdf to hold the veneer whilst doing this. |

| All the exposed edges were lipped with 6mm thick solid walnut. Glue it on and plane it flush when dry. |

| Tape the veneers together to form sheets for the sides. Apply glue to the mdf, drop on the veneers and pop them in the vacuum bag for 10 minutes. |
